My first proper International match was at the recent tournament in Stockholm, Sweden. Although not our best performance, it definitely gave us an insight into what we will come across in Australia. It was a huge learning curve but has influenced my training significantly. Unfortunately, due to the lack of women's teams in Scotland, I don't get many games with my club side, although the recently formed National League is helping to improve this situation. I am currently travelling down to play with Leeds in the English division 2 for extra matches. I am also captain of the Stirling University team and we have had a good year so far. We have a coach for the first time ever and won our first match last month, which is a real result. It is excellent to see girls coming along and trying something a bit different, like water polo, and really enjoying it. |

I was a swimmer for a long time but got bored with simply swimming up and down and was looking for something a bit different, and found water polo a sport that I could put my swimming talents to better use. The game is so unlike any other and requires so many different skills that I always find it challenging and can't imagine ever getting bored with it. I never imagined water polo taking me to the Commonwealth Championships before now so I guess just getting there and playing well is my ambition. |
